Mevagissey is a working fishing village on the south Cornwall coast, on St Austell Bay. This is a guide to it — the harbour, the beaches, the parking, where to eat and where to stay — written so that a visitor arrives knowing the place a little, not just its opening times.
The guide is told in four voices drawn from the village's own past: the night watchman, the fishlighter's wife, the pilchard seller and the smuggler. They are characters, not real named individuals, and they are a way of telling you about the place rather than a claim that any of them is speaking from beyond the quay. Each takes the subjects that were theirs — the watchman the history and the tides, the fishlighter's wife the harbour and getting on the water, and so on.
Facts here are taken from the village's and each attraction's own pages, and checked rather than copied from aggregators. Where a thing is a tale, it is called a tale. Opening times and prices are deliberately not listed, because they move — the link to the place's own site is always the right place for those.
