This page explains, in plain English, how Mevagissey handles your information. It's written as good practice, not as legal advice.

Who we are

Mevagissey is a guide to the harbour village of Mevagissey, Cornwall, at mevagissey.co.uk. This policy covers the mevagissey.co.uk website.

This website is operated by Freetek Ltd (trading as Mevagissey), the data controller for your personal data.

What we collect, and why

Analytics. Like most websites, Mevagissey uses Google Analytics (GA4) to count visits and see which pages people read. This is aggregated usage data we use to improve the site, not to identify you personally.

Your account. If you create an account you give us an email address and a password, and we store the items you save to your favourites, so you can sign in and find them again. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

We don't ask for more than we need, and we don't collect special-category (sensitive) personal data.

Cookies

Essential cookies make the site work; these are always on.

When you first visit from the UK or Europe, a consent message from Google — our consent management platform — asks whether you agree to cookies for advertising and for analytics. Nothing for personalised advertising or for analytics is set until you choose, saying no is as easy as saying yes, and your choice is remembered; you can change it at any time with "Manage cookies" below.

Advertising cookies. Google and its partners may set cookies to show adverts and to measure them. Adverts are personalised to your interests only if you consent; otherwise Google shows limited or non-personalised adverts.

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) load only once you have agreed to analytics.

We don't set affiliate cookies ourselves: when you CLICK an affiliate link, the retailer sets its own cookie on its own site so it can credit the referral.

If you use a share or "Pin" button, that social platform (such as Pinterest) may set its own cookies when you interact with it.

Manage cookies

Affiliate links

Some links on Mevagissey are affiliate links: if you buy through them we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. We recommend things on their merits — the commission never changes the price you pay.

Advertising

Mevagissey shows adverts served by Google AdSense, which helps pay for the guide. Every advert is labelled "Advertisement". Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar identifiers to show adverts based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure how they perform — where the law requires it, only with your consent.

How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can manage ad personalisation in Google's My Ad Center (myadcenter.google.com), and change your choice here at any time with "Manage cookies".

Who else is involved

We rely on a few third parties, each with its own privacy policy: Google (Google Analytics); Google (Google AdSense) and its advertising partners, which serve and measure the adverts; the retailers we link to, through their affiliate programmes; Pinterest and other social platforms, when you choose to interact with them (for example, pinning or sharing a page). We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

Pinterest and social media integration

Mevagissey connects to our OWN business accounts on Pinterest and other social platforms through their official APIs, to create and manage our own Pins, boards and posts and to see our own analytics. We access only our own accounts.

We never ask for, collect or store any social platform user's password. Any access tokens for our own accounts are held securely and encrypted. We do not receive, store, share or sell any other person's data from those platforms.

Children

Mevagissey is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Much of what we hold is your account data and anonymous analytics; email us and we'll help.

Keeping your data

We keep account data only while your account is active. Analytics data is retained for as long as Google Analytics holds it. Advertising cookies last as long as Google sets them, and your consent choice is kept so you are not asked on every visit. The site is served over HTTPS and we use reputable providers.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if our practices change; the date above shows the last revision.
